Black lake | Camp.

This could also fall under the category - BEST camp trip of summer 2015! This year we skipped going to Hecla Island a summer tradition of ours to try something new and to get back to real camping, in a tent no water no electric you know the rough stuff of nature. I Loved it and loved that the kids unpluged - I did too only posting  a few IG photo's and getting offline right after. We enjoyed it so much! 

First thing when we get to the site is set up the tent, boys get started here and us girls get organizing the table and chairs by the fire pit. 

Once the camp is set up we take a walk on the trails get to know the campground and go for a hike, I love hiking - the little things you find along the way and photograph + the calm of the trails.

I nearly fell into the water at the front of the canoe to get this shot - totally worth it.

That's it our trip to Black Lake was a very memorable one - We found a new place to adventure to not sure if this will be a yearly trip, but we will be back.  For the love of camping under the stars and being in the wild. 

 

Girls Beach Weekend.

Recently I took Ava with me to my Grandma's lake house in Gimli for a much needed girls weekend & it was just PERFECT! We packed up our overnight bags on Friday night and early Saturday morning we hit the road just us girls - this was a first for us and we already know that girls beach weekend will be a new tradition. 

Once we got to Gimli the first thing we did was walked around town & took in some local shops. I love all the signs that this little town has. 

I especially loved this coffee shop Flatland Coffee Roasters - I ordered a latte and it was THE BEST yet! I love seeing local shops striving so if you are in the area go get a cup! 

Another shop favorite this ones been mine for a long time now, Tergesens. She loves it for all the suckers she can get for 1 buck. 

While I was reading on our blanket and drinking coffee she played in the sand ... It was overcast sky and although nice out it was still early in the morning very windy & cool near the water so jeans and dresses it was, no swimming just yet. Then I hear Ava yell "Mama come see" I run over to her thinking she found another cool rock to take home with us ... then I seen this that she wrote in the sand I laughed so hard and gave her the biggest hug "I love you too, Turtle. Wow that's awesome Ava"!

I loved watching her play and make things in the sand, listen to her talk about things. I loved that it was just us girls (we love and missed our boys) and we could just make our plans as we go - "where should we go now Ava"? " let's go for lunch" it was awesome! I look forward to girls beach weekend again soon before the end of this summer. 

Oh yes Girls weekend was a great success and new found tradition - but once we returned home it was clear that we all missed each other. I love one on one time with my children & think it is very important for us both to take the time with the kids like that. Once I returned home Ethan and I went to Jurassic World and had a little time together there, all in all it was a great weekend!! 

 

 

Anniversary at the Cabin.

When I looked at the calender in late July I noticed that we had an unusual long Anniversary weekend coming up in August, With our actual anniversary on the saturday it was obvious that we would celebrate it no other way than at the cabin in the country. How perfect that I had four days off to celebrate that! 

Packing up everything (including the kitchen sink) as this family cabin that my Dad built with his own hands is "off grid". That means no electrical and no water!! we haul our own water and to be honest I love it! The best part of coming out to this cabin is that I GREW UP coming out here! This cabin sit's on our familes land & I have tons of memories coming out here and now I watch my children here enjoying the things that I did as a kid. So so cool!

Something about putting the busy parts of life behind you for a few days to get back to peace and quiet. To get to a place that my heart loves and misses during winter months, The older I get the more I crave this simple life & to be very honest I would give up everything today ... the house ... the van ... the life here in the city and trade it in for a life of LESS.

Hecla Island 2014.

Let's be adventurer's ... We kicked off Summer with a Traditional trip up to Hecla Island & found a lot of bugs & amazing family time together. Yes to outdoors & to celebrating another school year completed by the kids. I am in shock still on how fast this year went for them, I now have a fifth grader and a kindergarten starter in the fall I am celebrating the journey and enjoying it but can't help feel like we are living in the fast forward position ... that's why the cabin trips are so dear to me. 

This year our first destination of the summer is to Hecla Island and it's a beautiful piece of earth that calls us back each year. This trip was not short on anything including bugs! We simply had a blast! 

There is something about waking up in the woods and hearing nothing but birds and water and the wind in the trees. I was in pure bliss.

Roasting marshmallows was high on the list of must do's for Ethan he was so upset the first night we didn't do it due to rain, but night number two was clear out by Gull Harbour and made it just before the downpour when we got back to camp. 

We love this little Harbour and watching the fishermen(women) going out and coming back in with their catch, I spoke to one local fisherman and he said that they go out and net the fish and bring back the catch to Riverton then to Winnipeg. This is where some of you (local) get your fish from so neat! 

I wanted to sail away on one of those boats and also talked with a local couple that were getting ready to set sail they do this every summer and the go all the way to Norway House which they said takes them four weeks there and back to port. What a life! 

They were nice enough to let us come aboard Ava loved it! She kept asking to go sailing after they left. 

We grabbed our fishing gear and tried our luck ....

Tyler caught one but she wasn't sure she wanted to touch it, lol. 

They loved the campground park! 

Thank you Hecla for the memories once again!

Rain, just in time on our way home all tired and snoozing including the dog. Journey and enjoying the best of this trip ... many card games and spooky stories told at night and campfire laughs it was a perfect first camp trip of this season & look forward to many many more Adventures!

Long weekend adventures ...

Long weekend adventures for us is usually a trip to the beach & kites or sparklers & burger shack & a ton of photo's  ... This one is the day trip to Gimli and although it was overcast and windy ( great for kites ) we still enjoyed our adventure day. * warning this post is photo heavy, enjoy!

It was a chilly & overcast, and then sunny kind of day. We all enjoyed time out at the beach. There was a strange combo of open water & ice that came up a shore and to hear the ice cracking was pretty cool. change after a long long winter was happening.

After leaving the beach we walked around town and ate, shopped, and visited my grandparents at their lake house. It was a perfect day. HAPPY WEEKENDING !
